Diane and Fred School Dedication

Most of you know that Fred and I have had to forego Honduras schoolbuilding trip due to proton treatment in California. We wrote these words to be read at the dedication of the school when it is built. "We are with you in spirit and our spirits are with you in remembering Jack and all his good works. This school is a symbol of the very human hard work and love he put into everything he did in his life, whether it was tending his garden, talking to strangers or caring for his extended family. And you have all made sure that even after all our souls move on from this life and our personal experiences with Jack fade into human history, his strength of commitment to changing the planet into a better place will be marked. I am so proud of his community - our community - that we raised the money to do this job. When Fred first suggested it to my mum, we did not think we would raise all the 10,000plus dollars we needed to build a school and were prepared to contribute some extra to make sure it happened. Instead, the community raised all that and more, so that we could leave not just a school building but a training centre for young people - to take them into adulthood with skills. Though he did not believe there is an afterlife, I do, and I imagine his soul rejoicing - not for the glorification of his name, for which he would give not a whit - but for this practical extension of his generosity. We love all of you who have helped, whether we know you or not, and thank you for filling the places that we could not fill on this special trip."
